11th June 2015

The FOSS4G Seoul 2015 Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that 10 persons has been selected as awardees for Travel Grants.

In order to increase the interests in FOSS4G and FOSS4G Seoul conference and the diversity of the conference attendants, the Organizing Committee decided to provide Travel Grants for attendees who are originally from Low-income economies or Lower-middle-income economies according to the The World Bank data (http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-and-lending-groups). The Organizing Committee has set aside some money, but it was impossible to set aside nearly as much as the committee would like. To that end, the committee encourage people to donate when they register for the conference or workshops throughout the donation option. 100% of the donated money (less transaction fees) was dedicated to the Travel Grant fund. As a result, the Committee could afford providing Travel Grants to 10 attendees.

The Committee opened Travel Grants notice on 11th May 2015 till 29th May. The Committee said that a little bit more than 40 applications are received from more than 15 countries. Sanghee Shin – The chairperson of FOSS4G Seoul 2015 Organizing Committee said that he was very sorry that the Committee couldn’t provide Travel Grants for all of the applicants. He also mentioned that the Committee had evaluated all of the applications with the very strict screening rules and policies.
